"Yoo Soo Nam who was a brilliant inventor of a modern version of hapkido but not a heir of any traditional Korean material. He spent most of his practicing time in Korea with Kim Jung Soo, the founder of Ion Be Kwan hapkido, they were both inspired by a Chinese novel that mentioned the name Ion Be and decided to call their styles after this. Kim Jung Soo testified that Yoo Soo Nam had no teacher and that he didn't learn anything from his family. He watched others doing their thing, imitated them and put it together calling it Sipalki
He had told Kim that he had heard about the Muyedobotongji and intended to check it out some day. Yoo Soo Nam was not highly educated and up to the moment he left Korea, he didn't learn about Korean history, knew only some terms and names but never had the opportunity to study anything in depth.
