#1 Learn to Play: Weapons Usage at CS!

Pistols: Pistols are what everyone starts out with and are stuck with for the first few rounds of a game (especially if you’re on the receiving end of a lot of bullet) so it’s only logical that you become somewhat proficient in their use. The rate of fire on most of these pistols is nowhere near the automatic fire of a rifle or submachine gun, so for accuracy’s sake, take some time to aim. Shotguns: Shotguns are the often chosen by people sick of automatic weapons or those who just like the feel of a 12 gauge in their hands. While useless at longer distances, shotguns are useful and very lethal in close quarter combat and distances no more than 5 meters. In many cases, all that is needed is a single shell to the chest or head to end the life of your less-respectable opponent. Reloading for shotguns takes agonizingly long in most cases however, but the advantage of shell-to-shell loading allows you to break the reloading process to fire off a round or two, meaning that if an enemy pops up when you’re reloading, you won’t be a sitting duck.
From the Editor some words on Range: With the exception for the knife and grenades, the range for every weapon in Counterstrike is unlimited (as in, every bullet and shell fired from every gun in the game will travel clear across the map). The bullet travels in a straight line the direction as soon as it exits the barrel. Some bullets have been known to exit from the barrel at a crooked angle, which is predicted and rated under Accuracy. There is no way to reliably or closely predict the range of any weapon.
    Counter-Terrorist Weapons

FN Five-Seven Manufacturer: Fabrique Nationale Cost: $750 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 20/100 Ammunition: 5.7mm Power: Medium Accuracy: Medium Firing Rate: Medium Reload: Slow Special Function: None
Tips The FN 57 is the Counter-Terrorist solution to the Sig Sauer P228, with a larger clip capacity and slimmer design. Other than that, it is virtually identical to the Sig Sauer with the exception that it packs a smaller punch and available only to Counter-Terrorists, and is an excellent firearm for players new to the game still looking to improve their aim and have the cash to purchase it. If you are not one of these players or a person looking to try something new, there are better guns out there.

Steyr Tactical Machine Pistol (TMP) Manufacturer: Steyr Cost: $1250 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 30/120 Ammunition: 9mm Power: Low Accuracy: Low Firing Rate: High Reload: Fast Special Function: None
Tips The Most Underused Weapon In Counterstrike (a title rivaled only by the Mac-10) is more useful than most people are ready to believe (perhaps it has something to do with its size). Stocked with a 30-round clip full of 9mm ammunition, the TMP rivals the MP5 in reload time and the Glock 18 in stopping power. Which is not to say that all hope is lost. With a firing rate that rivals that of the FN P90, the Steyr TMP has been known to unload its clip in less than 3 seconds into the nearest opponent, reducing them to Swiss cheese. Keep in mind however, that this weapon is best paired with sneaking tactics, as an enemy with a heavier weapon can kill you twice as fast, and you wouldn’t get the bragging rights of humiliating your opponent with a death by TMP.

M4A1 Carbine with Silencer Manufacturer: Colt Cost: $3100 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 30/90 Range: Medium Power: High Accuracy: Medium Firing Rate: High Reload: Medium Special Function: Attach/Detach Silencer
Tips The close combat weapon of choice… The accuracy for this weapon is good head shots from a distance are easily obtainable. Use two-second bursts on targets that are closer than 10 meters and half second burst on those farther away. Aim just below the neckline and you’ll be rewarded with some good headshot kills. Be wary of the small clip and reserve size. You don’t want to run out of ammo in a heated firefight. Like the AK47 a few nicely placed shots will take out any opponent.

Steyr AUG A1 Manufacturer: Steyr Cost: $3500 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 30/90 Range: High Power: High Accuracy: High-Medium (Bursts)/Low-Medium (Full Auto) Firing Rate: High Reload: Medium Special Function: 1.4x zoom
Tips M4 that can snipe… Being a little more powerful than the M4 with the ability to snipe make the AUG a choice weapon for those long-range gunfights. Until someone whips out an AWM that is. But if the map is open use AUG if the map is small corridor type use M4. When using the snipe mode always aim for the head. This will instantly kill your opponent.

SIG-550 Sniper Rifle Manufacturer: SIG Cost: $4200 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 30/90 Range: High Power: Medium Accuracy: Medium Firing Rate: High Reload: Slow Special Function: 2.25x zoom/6x zoom
Tips I'd you the same tactics as with the G3/SG-1 Sniper Rifle, though you have to fire even slower with this one. Take good time to get aim at the head on the enemies, and keep calm. Although not very effective in sniping, this one is very good to use in the up-close-combats when a foe sneaks up ahead of your aim. The rate of fire with this weapon is quite high, so aim at the chest and let the recoil do the rest!

    Terrorist Weapons

Dual 96G Elite Beretta's Manufacturer: Beretta Cost: $1000 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 15 rounds (30 for both weapons) /120 Rounds Ammunition: 9mm Power: Low Accuracy: Low Firing Rate: High Reload: Agonizingly Slow Special Function: None
Tips This set of guns is the most fun to shoot, especially if you’re a fan of Hong Kong Action Cinema. The Dual Beretta 96G Elites are the fastest firing weapons in the game that hold 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition. However, because they fire fast, have small caliber ammunition and are fun to shoot, it is only natural that they cause about as much damage as a mosquito, take a century to reload (clocked in at 6 seconds) and are as accurate as a Phillip-Morris health report. If you can spare the cash ($1000), the kills and just want to break the monotony of the game, buy yourself a pair of these stylish killers.

Avtomat Kalashnikov Model 47 (AK-47) Manufacturer: Kalashnikov Cost: $2500 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 30/90 Range: Medium Power: High Accuracy: Medium Firing Rate: High/Medium Reload: Slow Special Function: None
Tips The second best cheap weapon you can buy… The rules are about the same for this weapon as they are for the MP5. There are some important notes to take into consideration. The max rounds size (not clip size) is smaller 90 rounds versus 120 rounds for the MP5. But the shells are much more powerful, able to punch right through body armor. Especially head armor. Also the rounds will penetrate most walls and boxes. The recoil is much greater with this weapon. Use half-second bursts and aim for the neck. The accuracy is better for long range than the MP5. Can be used to snipe if aiming for the head. If you catch some poor sole up close with this gun just open up on their torso.

MAC-10 Manufacturer: Ingram Cost: $1400 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 30/90 Ammunition: .45 Caliber Power: High Accuracy: Low Firing Rate: Low Reload: Medium Special Function: None
Tips Often considered a poor Terrorists’ MP5, the Mac-10 is something more. Sporting a 30 round magazine of .45 caliber bullets instead of the standard 9mm, the Mac-10 actually does more damage than the MP5 could ever hope for. Unfortunately, power is all the Mac-10 has to offer. It takes longer to reload than the MP5, is one of the least accurate weapons in the game, and a rate of fire that leaves much to be desired. Even when purchasing ammunition, it does not come in clips of 30, but rather clips of 12 (a la USP). The best bet for someone using this weapon is to wage their firefights anywhere between close and moderate ranges, using controlled bursts and holding down the trigger if encountering an enemy at point blank range.

SSG552 Commando Manufacturer: SIG Cost: $1000 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 15/120 Range: Medium Power: Low Accuracy: Medium Firing Rate: High/Medium Reload: Slow Special Function: None
Tips The terrorist AUG… Higher rate of fire than the AUG and M4, Accuracy that falls in the middle of the three. This is a deadly weapon is the hands of a skilled and patient player. When using this weapon use two second burst up close and snipe for headshots from a distance. Opening this weapon up causes bullets to go everywhere but your target. Be in control. Again. This weapon recoils aim low and it will rise as you fire.

G3/SG-1 Precision Sniper Rifle Manufacturer: Heckler & Koch Cost: $5000 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 20/60 Range: High Power: Medium-High Accuracy: Medium Firing Rate: High Reload: Slow Special Function: 2.25x zoom/6x zoom
Tips A sniper rifle with not the best accuracy, a medium accuracy and very deadly bullets. Patience is the word for this weapon. Take aim on vital areas and let loose your doom with controlled bursts of two bullets every second. With this weapon, you should try to get yourself placed in a rather hidden spot, covering your teammates rather than interacting directly in combat.

    Neutral Weapons

SEAL Knife 2000 Manufacturer: SOG Cost: None Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: N/A Range: Low Power: Low (Slash)/Medium (Stab) Accuracy: High Firing Rate: High (Slash)/Low (stab) Reload: N/A Special Function: stab
Tips When you are totaly out of ammo and you hear a nearby enemy's footsteps, you don't have much of a choice..rip his guts out with your ninja-knife (or Rambo knife if you prefer that ). The SEAL knife 2000 can do some nasty things with a body: stab(high dmg)/slice(low dmg), and that's why people love it so much.

USP (Universal Self-Loading Pistol) .45ACP Tactical Manufacturer: Heckler & Koch Cost: $500 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 12/48 Ammunition: .45 Caliber Power: High Accuracy: Medium Firing Rate: Medium Reload: Medium Special Function: Attach/Detach Silencer
Tips The standard issue pistol for the Counter-terrorist forces is actually one of the better-balanced pistols in the game. It holds a good combination of stopping power and clip load, and is a useful sidearm for any player. As with all pistols aiming at the chest and areas above are recommended, and 2-3 well placed rounds to the chest from a clip of 12 should settle any arguments that arise.

Glock 18C Select Fire Manufacturer: Glock Cost: $400 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 20/120 Ammunition: 9mm Power: Low Accuracy: Medium Firing Rate: Medium Reload: Fast Special Function: Switch Fire Modes (Semi-Auto/Burst Fire)
Tips The standard issue pistol for the Terrorist forces holds the advantage of carrying 20 rounds and the option of burst fire. The remaining features however, are more of a liability than benefit. Its 9mm ammunition makes the Glock one of the weaker weapons of the game, and the accuracy of the burst fire suffers at any distance over moderate range (10 meters or so). The best way to use this weapon is to avoid the burst fire option altogether and train your index finger to fire single shots at a rapid pace, which should help the Glock to be fairly accurate while still retaining its fast rate of fire.

Desert Eagle .50 AE Manufacturer: Magnum Research/Isreali Military Industries Cost: $650 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 7/35 Ammunition: .50 Caliber Magnum Power: Very High Accuracy: High Firing Rate: Low Reload: Fast Special Function: None
Tips This mammoth of a pistol is more powerful shot for shot than most submachine guns in the game. It is sometimes used as a replacement sniper rifle in the early stages of the game by pros because of its desirable accuracy (for a pistol) and ability to punch through doors and crates. However, its 7 round clip and slow rate of fire requires its users to be careful and accurate when firing this gun. Take advantage of the “Deagle’s” power and put some time and consideration into aiming your shots. Two or three hits to the chest are enough to send your opponent to the morgue faster than a Klansman in Harlem.

SIG p228 Politzei Manufacturer: SIG Sauer Cost: $600 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 13/53 Ammunition: .357 Caliber Power: High Accuracy: Medium Firing Rate: Medium Reload: Medium Special Function: None
Tips A poor man’s Desert Eagle is the best set of words used to describe the Sig Sauer P228. A faster firing Desert Eagle with less power and larger magazine capacity almost double that of its predecessor (13 rounds) the Sig Sauer is an excellent sidearm for those who are still working on their accuracy with pistols and have money to spare. Keep in mind though that while the P228 does fire faster than most pistols in the game, doing so makes the accuracy suffer, and should only be reserved for situations involving close quarter combat.

M3 Super 90 Manufacturer: Benelli Cost: $1700 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 8/32 Ammunition: 12 Gauge Power: Very high Accuracy: Low (Best Used In Close Quarters) Firing Rate: Low Reload: Very Slow Special Function: None
Tips The second best shotgun in the game isn’t really all that bad. It’s one of the most powerful weapons in Counterstrike shot-for-shot and can still inflict a decent amount of damage on enemies outside its recommended range (the spray pattern eases the stress of precise aiming). When used at distances longer than 50 metaphysical meters however, Benelli M3 takes a backseat to high-powered rifles and submachine guns. What might also detract someone from purchasing this weapon is the long reload time and agonizingly slow rate of fire (a full 2 seconds pass before you can fire another shot, though some players have managed to fire faster if they tap their mouse at a frenzied pace). If you’re in the early rounds and looking for an alternative to the Mac-10 or Steyr TMP, you can’t go wrong with this powerhouse.

XM1014 (M4 Super 90) Manufacturer: Benelli Cost: $3000 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 7/32 Ammunition: 12 Gauge Power: Very high Accuracy: Low (Best Used in Close Quarters) Firing Rate: Medium Reload: Slow Special Function: None
Tips The best way to describe a Benelli XM1014 is an M3 on steroids. This auto-shotgun solves all the problems that plagued its previous version. It reloads twice as fast and fires very effectively on both semi and fully automatic (tap or hold down the trigger based on preference), while still packing a wallop at close range that any 12-gauge is known for. Much like its predecessor however, the XM1014 is terrible for firing at targets some distance away, and when using the automatic fire aspect of this gun, one would be surprised at how fast the 7 shot magazine is exhausted, and how far the crosshair can stray due to the incredible recoil. The best bet for this gun is to steer clear of the automatic fire option altogether (unless annihilating your opponent at point blank range) and tap the trigger constantly, keeping an eye on your target and your crosshairs.

MP5-Navy Manufacturer: Heckler & Koch Cost: $1500 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 30/120 Ammunition: 9mm Power: Medium Accuracy: High Firing Rate: Medium Reload: Medium Special Function: None
Tips The standard issue submachine gun for the US Navy Seals and Green Berets, the MP5 is the all-around weapon in Counterstrike. Its fast reloads, high rate of fire and good accuracy all make it a winning combination that players look for in any automatic weapon. Several players I know even swear this helps them with their headshots in that the barrel of the gun gently pulls up at a perfect angle after every round is fired. In fact, the only thing that seems to prevent the MP5 from being declared the best weapon in the game is the that it is no match for automatic rifles and faster firing submachine guns. Such concerns can be saved for the later rounds however, as nobody can ever be criticized for selecting the MP5.

P90 Manufacturer: Fabrique Nationale Cost: $1500 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 50/100 Ammunition: 5.7mm Power: Medium Accuracy: Medium Firing Rate: Very High Reload: Slow Special Function: None
Tips The FN P90 is considered a standard “Spray-N-Pray” weapon (where you clench down the trigger and hope for the best). Unlike other weapons, bursts and single shots from this gun won’t do you much good, as the initial shots fired from this gun have a tendency to stray from their target. It is best used in close quarters, as it chews through ammunition like a beaver through a furniture store and has 50 rounds of ammunition to spare. While able to hold its ground against other submachine guns in the game, the P90 cannot compete with other guns when engaging in distanced firefights with MP5s, UMPs and various rifles in the game. If you’re a player who finds himself fighting in close quarters more often than not and is looking for a replacement MP5 with a higher rate of fire and more ammo to spare, this is your gun.

Universal Machinenpistole (UMP) Manufacturer: Heckler & Koch Cost: $1700 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 25/90 Ammunition: .45 Caliber Power: High Accuracy: Medium Firing Rate: Medium Reload: Medium Special Function: None
Tips The easiest way to explain the UMP is double everything that the USP has to offer. If you double the magazine load, double the reload time of the USP, add an automatic fire option and slap a more expensive price tag on it, you’ll have the UMP 45. Because it fires slower than most submachine guns, the UMP can provide more accuracy, although its seemingly endless reload cycle will have you biting your nails after the miniscule 25 rounds have been exhausted. This is one of the few weapons that you can use to go fully automatic when targeting an enemy at more than 20 metaphysical meters. However, you may still want to focus on controlled bursts, as you’ll be surprised (or not) how fast those 25 rounds of ammunition evaporate in combat.

Scout Manufacturer: Steyr Cost: $2750 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 10/60 Range: High Power: Medium Accuracy: High Firing Rate: Medium Reload: Medium Special Function: 2.25x zoom/6x zoom
Tips This weapon fires with medium rate of fire, and a single bullet will take your opponents life down by half. The accuracy is great, and you move with high speed when wielding it. A good strategy for this one is to shoot you opponent once with it, then to take out your Berettas/Five-seven or grenade and finish him off. Just make sure that you did hit the first time! A favorable weapon in large areas, but could also work in maps such as de_nuke, since you actually can hit when you move with it.

Arctic Warfare Magnum (AWP or AWM) Manufacturer: Accuracy International Cost: $4750 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 10/30 Range: Very-High Power: Very-High Accuracy: Very-High Firing Rate: Low Reload: Medium Special Function: 2.25x zoom/9x zoom
Tips Single shot killing wonder… If you’re going to snipe this is the gun to use. Aim for the head. Lead moving distant targets just a little. And stay out of sight. A guy with an AWM is really slow and has to reload after each shot. Listen for the shot and move after 2 seconds duck for cover. Wait for the shot then move. Find the sniper and kill him. Just jump around he’ll most likely miss. If you’re the sniper and you’re a terrorist get the double pistols. They make good defensive weapons. If CT the standard issue pistol is good. Just get some more armor.

M249 PARA Light Machine Gun (Minimi) Manufacturer: Fabrique Nationale Cost: $5750 Ammo Per Clip/Weapon: 100/200 Range: Medium Power: High Accuracy: Medium Firing Rate: High Reload: Very-Low Special Function: None
Tips A very powerful weapon with a slow rate of fire and the accuracy of a drunken bird. This weapon can pound through almost any wall or door, and the bullets cause grave damage! The recoil is out of this world, so here's a tip: aim at the floor in front of the foe, and watch the room go red as you burst him apart. This, of course is a weapon for pretty tight areas. With a sniper in your neck, you're as good as dead, since you move very slow holding the weapon.
